Kate's Home! Part 2: What the Crown Got Right (And Wrong)
With the Princess of Wales back home from the hospital, lets look back at her relationship with William
Hello Dear Readers! Happy Monday! The Princess of Wales has been discharged from the hospital and is back home recuperating at Windsor. Kensington Palace and Prince William managed to get Catherine in and out of the hospital and to visit her without the media frenzy. Somehow, astonishingly, brilliantly managed. That’s not to say there hasn’t been a frenzy on social media. (I won’t give air to the many conspiracy theories but goodness me it was ridiculous at times.)
King Charles was also discharged from the hospital today. The coordination between Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace has been a sight to behold and reminded me of the coordination between William and Catherine during Earthshot.
Analysis of the Month: The Prince and Princess of Wales in Sync
Hello Readers! Part of the reason why I created this Substack was because as a History Major, I felt Royal watching discourse had crated to shameless clickbait. And online personalities with little knowledge of history had high-jacked the conversation. So I’ve created a series called “Analysis of the Month” where I do an even greater deep dive on a topic. My hope is readers walk away with a greater understanding of the subject matter and grow their gossip knowledge. This is
Shortly after the announcement about Catherine’s surgery, the King helped ease some of the attention by disclosing his surgery plans. Queen Camilla visited him no less than four times, going through the front, ensuring eyes and cameras were on her. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Prince and Princess of Wales were able to slip out unnoticed during one of these visits. When she was safely back home, an announcement went out. Then less than 30 minutes later, the King and Queen exited through the front of the hospital ensuring that front pages had photos to share. What did I say? Coordination.
So two Senior Royals are currently healing. Outside of hospital stays, we’ve had a dearth of British Royal Gossip to discuss. This entire ordeal has shown how much the King cares for his son and daughter in law, as well as what William and Catherine will always prioritize: Their family. I believe this experience has brought the Prince and Princess of Wales closer together. And with that in mind, I thought I’d finish up my Crown discussion installment. If you missed Part 1, you can catch up below:
Part 1: What The Crown Got Right (And Wrong) about Kate Middleton
Hello Dear Readers! Who here’s ready for the New Year and all the changes it’ll bring? I know I am. Going into 2024, the Royal landscape looks decidedly placid, which is a welcome change. For the past few years, the start of the year has wrought many headlines and crises (more on this in a later newsletter).
In the above newsletter, we discussed what the Crown got right (Carole Middleton’s strength) and what they misrepresented (debunking the origin story of Prince William and Princess Kate). In this newsletter, we’re going to discuss what they got right about their courtship, William’s sweet voicemails to Kate and some of the biggest misconceptions about their relationship. Did Kate set out to ensnare William during the much talked about fashion show he attended with friends? Did William settle for Kate? Who are Kate’s friends and did she dump all them to chase William? Is something inherently wrong with the time they took before they got married? Please enjoy the archival photos from this time in their lives as well as some private photos from the fashion show itself while we discuss!
St Andrew’s Fashion Show
The Crown recreated the moment Kate Middleton sashayed down the catwalk at a St Andrews University charity fashion show on March 27, 2002 – causing Prince William watching from a £200 front-row seat to allegedly remark: “Wow! Kate’s hot!” And the rest, as they say, is history. The Crown goes further and includes Carole Middleton telling Kate to “show off” her god-given legs and Kate is shown changing her outfit last minute to capture William’s attention. What isn’t shown? That there were many scantily clad students who took part in the show too:
Half-English, Half-Dutch Nadine Graves sashayed down the runway in a purple bra and short loose skirt.
