“Where’s William” and a Short History of Conspiracy Theories
Kate is “doing fine”, well-known conspiracy theories and my thoughts on why I think Prince William bowed out
Hello Dear Readers!
No pithy intro here to share. Let’s get to it. I want to touch more on what I wrote yesterday about the conspiracy theories currently swirling about the marriage, sobriety and mortality of the Prince and Princess of Wales. But first, let’s talk about Prince William.
When Kensington Palace announced that Prince William would no longer be attending King Constantine’s Memorial Service due to “personal reasons” my ears perked up. Personal reasons could mean many things. He could be sick, his children could be sick, Catherine could’ve been unwell. But Kensington Palace gave an off-the-record briefing to the press pool: Catherine was on the mend and doing well; this absence had nothing to do with her. So here are my two theories, in order of less to most likely for why he missed it.
Queen Camilla “leading the Royals”
When it was announced that the King was missing the service, Royal communications released stated “The Queen and members of the Royal Family would be attending the memorial service for King Constantine”. At the time I was confused because if the King isn’t there, then the next highest ranking person isn’t Queen Camilla, but the Heir to the Throne, who would be Prince William. Queen Camilla being touted in stories as “leading the family” in the King’s absence just didn’t sit right to me. Since they King started his treatment, I’ve felt inundated with story after story about how Queen Camilla is saving the day and it’s become a bit much.
When the King isn’t there, William outranks Camilla. While Charles may be comfortable putting the love of his life at the front in his absence, William only has patience for so little. Especially lately. So, with everything going on in his life, he called it and chose to be with his family.
How likely is this? I don’t know the answer to this question. But this theory is interesting to me because the announcement of the Queen “leading the family” felt like a very much a different way of going about things. I’m not sure how I feel about this new direction from Buckingham Palace…
