Hello Dear Readers! I had this newsletter queued up to be published earlier this year. But then the Royal Family decided to all start being ill and I put it on the back burner. At any point now, a decision will be made on Prince Harry’s Judicial Review to receive tax payer funded Royal Protection officers.
For a refresher on the Security Case and second Judicial Review that got denied back in May 2023, read the newsletter below:
Usually, court decisions are made and I take the time to unpack and summarize things in a cogent way. This time, I’ve decided to release my thoughts so when a decision is made, you Dear Readers will have the context needed. The long and short of it is, Prince Harry’s brought a very expensive claim against the UK government. And here the kicker - even if he somehow wins this judicial review, he can still be denied security. It’s madness. On steroids
The salient point to remember from the decision when it’s published? A judicial review reviews the lawfulness of a decision made by a public body. It does not make decisions.
In layman’s terms, this means if the judge were to come back and “side” with Harry, it doesn’t mean that he’s granted security, or the judge agrees that he’s at risk and he needs it immediately. A judicial review isn’t agreeing that Harry needs security, it’s reviewing whether the decision made was kosher. If the Judge says there was something wrong in the process, the “public body will be able to make the same decision again, so long as it does so in a lawful way.”
