Prep for Silliness: Earthshot is Coming
The Palace released details of Prince William's trip to Singapore for the Earthshot Prize
Hello Readers!
I hope everyone’s been having a good week. This newsletter has been a long time coming but as it tends to happen: Life got in the way. Thanks for hanging in there and being loyal subscribers! Now, onto the Royal Tea!
On Monday, details of Prince William’s itinerary for the Earthshot Prize events in Singapore were shared by Kensington Palace.
“During his trip, which will take place between Sunday 5 and Wednesday 8 November, His Royal Highness will spend time meeting Singaporeans and learn about how local organizations are working to protect and restore our planet – from tackling the illegal wildlife trade and protecting the rainforest to incubating and scaling cutting edge innovations.”
This year’s awards are also being marked for the first time with an ‘Earthshot Week’: A series of events bringing together past Earthshot finalists with businesses and investors. Prince William will take part in all of this, as well as attending the United for Wildlife Global Summit which is also taking place in Singapore.
All in all, it’s going to be a very busy four days for not only Prince William, but the Earthshot Prize finalists themselves. This will be “work”. Which means we can expect one or more of the following: Drama from William’s estranged brother and sister-in-law, red herring arguments about what Earthshot stands for, silliness from the journalists accompanying Prince William to this trip and/or complaining from Royal fans because Catherine, the Princess of Wales is not there. And we can’t forget the new season of the Crown and Omid' Scobie’s new book finally getting a release date of late November. I can’t quite decide which one I’m looking forward to the least…But before we dig into the above scenarios, let’s talk through what we can look forward to seeing beginning the 5th of November!
The four-day visit will begin with a stop at landmark HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at Changi Airport.
Later in the trip, the Prince will take to the water with a spot of dragon boating—although he won’t be able to go head to head with his wife in a race as the royal couple did on a visit to Canada in 2011.
“The Prince will have the opportunity to participate in dragon boating, a popular sport in Singapore which brings together locals and expats from across the Commonwealth and beyond,” Kensington Palace said.
The Earthshot Awards has also partnered with YouTube and there will be highlights from the awards on November 7th and content from the “Green Carpet,” produced as part of the partnership. According to a source from Kensington Palace, “The team are working with a number of YouTube creators that are based in Singapore who will be creating content in and around the show.”
I’m looking forward to this meaty four sets of days. William will not attempt to silence small children or put energy towards asking his PR gurus to “make things sound more substantial”. The drama from Earthshot will be insufficient. And that’s why we should prep ourselves for drama coming from outside.
Prep for: Drama from William’s Estranged Brother

Last year, on Thursday Dec 1st, a mere 12 hours after William and Kate landed in Boston for the second annual Earthshot Prize, the teaser trailer to the Harry and Meghan docuseries on Netflix was released to great fanfare. Black and white photos, haunting piano music, a jarring sound effect of glass shattering, a side profile photo of
