A "Circus" Indeed

I am not exaggerating the headline: All hell is breaking loose. A statement by Team Sussex was released today:

The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous. We encourage tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that they alone are creating

Several things here

1. This statement was provided to their de facto Publicist and Biographer, Omid Scobie. He’s still getting exclusive briefs! Good for him!

2. Nowhere in this statement is Prince Harry even alluded to. It’s about Meghan going about her life in the present.

3. We receive statements from the “Press Secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”, “The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”, or “Archewell Foundation”. Did Prince Harry help draft this too?

4. The statement does not contain something very important: A denial that she had anything to do with this.

The last point is key because Meghan has learned the hard way about publicly denying things that are in fact true. There is something going on behind the scenes. Valentine Low tweeted that lawyers from both Buckingham Palace (yesterday) and Meghan’s lawyers (today) have been sent to the Telegraph.

Yesterday, I noted even though the Telegraph story had broken midday, tabloids and newspapers in Britain like the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror refused to publish stories about it. Now we know why: The Palace was serving legal papers pushing back on this leak. And today, lawyers for Meghan/the Sussexes followed suit...But before anyone falls over themselves to say this is definitive proof the Sussexes had nothing to do with leaking this story, I present, Exhibit A for how Harry and Meghan handled being accused of conspiring with Omid Scobie on his book Finding Freedom:
